Introducing a Step Forward in Helmet Design | Texas Cyclesport

Posted by Giro Design on 26th Aug 2014

MIPS IS MOVEMENT
Every Giro helmet is equipped with a liner that deforms on impact and reduces the transfer of energy to the brain. Think of it like a type of second skull. Now a new helmet technology called the Multidirectional Impact Protection System (MIPS) is taking the redirection of energy a step further. The goal? To further reduce rotational forces.

We are pleased to offer MIPS technology in several key helmet categories including road, mountain and urban. Learn More Here.

THE MECHANICS OF A CRASH

Although no two crashes are identical, two main types of force—linear and rotational—are related to the majority of brain injuries. Most real-world impacts actually subject your brain to a combination of both linear and rotational forces. Watch this animated video to learn more.

GIRO + MIPS COLLABORATION

We’ve spent years collaborating with the designers behind MIPS. The technology was developed by scientists at the Karolinska Hospital and the Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm, Sweden. Watch this video to learn more.
